'95 wagon self leveling suspension ride height reset

I am thinking about lowering my E320 wagon and heard that there is a trick to reset the ride height on the SLS system once the car is lowered, and I was wondering if anyone knew what that trick was? thanks.

Well, the only way to properly lower the rear with the SLS intact and working is to adjust the link from the swaybar to the control unit by the right rear wheel. If you just cut a spring to lower it, the system will still push the car up to the factory setting once you start driving...

Adjust the threaded connecting rod to be about 3/4" longer will net you about a 1/2" drop...anymore and the SLS won't work properly and be noisey. You need 2 small 6 mm wrenches to do while on the car. IMO its best to buy the $30 rod, adjust it off the car, and install it...tossing the old and prolly decrepid rod.

Well, that works out perfectly because i was only looking to drop it 1/2 inch to 1 inch...I will still need to replace the springs, correct?

No, you keep the stock springs with this 'mod'.

I actually do not know of a replacement lowering spring for the rear of a wagon. Although 500E H&R springs might work....if you can find them.

There are plenty of lowering springs for a wagon.

I've used H&Rs and now replaced them and gone with Sportline (MB) Springs for about a 1/2 inch drop. Love the height, for real world usage in NJ.

Yeah, i found the H&R springs and a few others that work for the wagon...well, can you do the same in the front?
And RHW, how much are the sportline springs?

RHW?

You can find the 500Es connecting rod part number here (free subscription) but I can't verify if it will work with the wagon. Did you find the level unit by the right rear wheel? Does the connecting rod look like the picture I posted? The 2 end swaybar links are solid, yes, those you can't adjust.

You can find the part numbers for the Sportline springs also there.

https://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/

Remember this, even if you install lowering springs, you'll have to adjust the self-leveling rear level down also or the car will move itself to the stock level when you drive off....if your SLS is working properly.

http://www.parts.com/oemcatalog/inde...eid=67&model=E Class Wagon&year=1994&graphicID=5810325&callout=5&catalo gid=2&displayCatalogid=0 Look here under the suspension page for a 94' wagon, the rod is #5...$28

The epc is free, tho they want a credit card; they won't charge to it.....read the instructions. Anyway.

Really? You can't find the rod that connects the swaybar to the level control unit? Jack up the right rear and remove the rim, its there. Unless someone deleted your whole system and put a conventional shock in there (?)

As for your clunk chlippo, there's really only 2 items that would make noise back there; either the N2 cell (accumulator) has a torn diaphram inside it or the hydraulic shock is bad...but its odd (to me at least) that it would make a noise while not moving.

The front is regular shocks and springs (not sls) so you can drop the car by changing ur springs (or cutting)

You can get it lower in the front (and back) by putting in the #1 spring pads.

I bet your fronts have the #4s from the factory. The pads are cheap...like $10 each. But you'll need to rent or borrow and internal spring compressor for the fronts to remove the springs.

The rears you can drop out the springs by un-doing the lower control arm and lowering it with another jack. Its quite easy.
