W124 I6 engine upgrades

What is out there to give my engine a bit more power? I've looked but I haven't found much...Anyone want to share their knowledge?

Many have tried, few have succeeded, even fewer have succeeded inexpensively.

The quick and easy way is to drop the engine from the C36 in there. Some members here have cars with this engine swap and the performance is improved some. It's basically the same engine but bored and stroked some, with more aggressive cams and tuning courtesy of AMG.

The slightly more nuts way is to swap in an M119 from any of the V8 Mercedes of the early/ mid nineties.

The typical cam/ headers/ intake stuff that works for other makes will yield a big fat nothing. Not just nothing, but a big fat nothing. Don't bother wasting your time or money.

For better acceleration, you might swap the diff, but having a wagon means you'll have to source one from a diesel engined car (rare as hens teeth) or from a manual transmissioned car (rare as hens gold teeth )

Well I would not agree with all of what was posted. You could easily install a wet shot of nitrous that would yield good gains with low cost and very reliable. If I just wanted to put some power down once and a while I would do this in a heart beat. A 100 shot would really wake up the car. You could also as suggested put in a different rear diff ratio. I have a 3.27 ratio abs differential if you want. No asr diffs other than 2.65 ratios. After those two ideas it does start to get expensive if you are not a do it yourself kind of guy. Turbos or supercharger are both options and have been done by quite a few. After doing this a while on several different engines I would easily say that anything under 400 hp a good stock engine can handle for a long time. You will have to turn up the modulator on the transmission to firm up the shifts but that does not cost anything.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, basically tho i was just looking for something that i could do to get maybe 50 more horsepower, i'm not sure how long i'm going to keep the car so i dont really want to start a massive project.....yet. I was just really looking for little things i could do to give it a bit more grunt, quicker acceleration, and the like. Probably going to try to lower it first...
