1995 E-320 ASR failure

Need some help as my ASR has lost its mind.

When car is started the ASR light comes on and the engine goes into "limp home" Unless you wait a few minutes the engine will try to stall if you try to increase RPM's. When you can increase the RPM's the ABS light comes on the radio cuts off. If you let off the gas the radio lights come on but no sound.
If the ac is truned on the radio admits noise.Checked error codes and it shows an open in the left sensor. Could this cause all the above? Is there a way to bypass the ASR all together?

That is the big problem.

My other 320 has two problems:

Aux fans will not come on. Checked fuse and relay.

The ABS light comes on as you drive then when restarted goes off. It will then not repeat this for a few days.

Could you be more descriptive? 'Open sensor in the left' means what? Did you get a code read-out?

Is one of the speed sensors on the front shock towers not connected? Dis-connecting a speed sensor will not cause the car to go into LH mode.

Dis-connecting a speed sensor DOES take the ASR off-line tho...

How are the engine wiring harnesses? Is the Alt up to snuff and regulating the voltage output continually? Peel back some of the engine wiring covering and inspect for degradation/crumbling of the insulation materials (a known problem for this vintage MB)... I have a feeling the ASR has nothing to do with your LH mode problem.

Check your alternator. If it is overcharging then this sort of thing can happen. Should not be over 14vlts when running at the battery. The problem would get worse when revving the engine. Other things. Overvoltage protection relay. And then it gets expensive. Engine harness. throttle actuator. ASR control unit.
There is not really any simple way to shut down asr.

What was the fix Horace ?

Sure, could be the ETA ...prolly the most expensive part to replace too.
