Accident today 1/30 :(

Leaving work this afternoon, minding my own business and occupying my own lane, a nice fellow decided to make a right turn from the left lane in front of me and my '93 400E.

As I usually am, I was armed at the time. He asked me if I was a police officer, but said nothing else about the .38 on my hip. He was driving a rental minivan which sustained quite a bit more damage than my tank did! So far the only insurance info he's given was from an old policy he hasn't had since 2007. Fortunately, here in Virginia we can carry Uninsured Motorist coverage so they've given him 1 week to come up with valid insurance details. If by next Tuesday he hasn't provided any, that coverage will kick in and I'll get all fixed up with just a $200 deductible.

I'm fine, just annoyed and stressed a bit. I say he's a nice fellow because I am generous that way. There may have been a hint of sarcasm involved also. I was on my way from work to a doctor's appointment that I decided to cancel once I saw that we were all unhurt. You should have seen him go pale when I said "gimme a minute, I have to call my chiropractor!"

Finally got all the insurance stuff settled. Car will be dropped at the body shop Sunday. It started running poorly Wednesday, the coils mount just inside the impact area, so I hope it's just a loose connection or ground. As much as I hate to admit it, the Sonata I have to drive for the time being seems to be a nice car. Nowhere near as quiet and solid feeling as my 400E, but better than my last couple rentals.

Car's been in the body shop for a week now. Talked to someone over there Thursday, seems they found a bit more underlying damage that's pushed the repairs dangerously close to the insurance company's 'total loss' threshold. The body shop guy has already gotten them to raise their threshold by standing up for the condition and solid viability of my car other than the damage their customer caused, for which they've assumed liability. I hope this all works out well. I miss that old car something awful!
