Cut off valve

Gentleman
1989 124 with a 603 engine.
Was looking at replacing my shutoff valve on top of the IP.
A few problems with this....
First, tell me if I'm wrong but the intake manifold has to come off...
Then any special care in removing the valve that sits on top of the IP?
Or is there another way to do this?
Cheers
Big Dan

May be the same. Here's how mine works. On my older car the shut off valve doesn't have anything in it or around it to worry about losing while taking it out. The gaskets, the notch on the IP, and the notch on the valve assembly all line up for proper bolting togetherness. The end of the valve is an "L" shape and it fits inside a slot on the arm it mates to inside the IP.. On your newer one I don't know if there's a way for you to be able to see this when taking it out or putting it back in but it sure does help to be able to see that you have it right. On my older one I can losen the ALDA and turn it 90* to get a view of the mating of the "L" and the slot on the arm in the IP.
If it's not positinoed in the slot and is on the other side of that arm it will pull too far and the engine will run away so be prepared to choke the air inlet just incase!! If you know you have it right there's nothing to be scared of, but it doesn't hurt to think ahead just in case.. There may be an easier way to view this on new engines such as yours not sure though but that's how it works..

Your's is newer than mine, the ALDA on mine has 4 bolts to turn the whole ALDA plate (not like you would to adjust the ALDA) but where it bolts to the IP opens up a visual..Good luck and don't forget that damp towel or phonebook or something to throw over the air intake
