1994 Convertible - Soft top question

Hello All,

I am helping a friend with his W124 e320, and having fixed the majority of the issues with the soft top mechanism, we are now looking for the missing/broken parts associated with it.

One of these parts is the plastic handle/grip that is located in the center of the forward arch of the soft top, which helps grab and pull the top down when it is being closed.

The handle was broken when my friend bought the car (along with 50% of the other interior plastics) and he threw the pieces away instead of keeping for reference. Would now want to get this piece but I'm having a hard time finding one for sale as I don't know the part number.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks in advance,
Andres G

Send me an PM here and I will send you a pdf for his cab. In a pinch, when its not obvious, try MB Classic Center in CA. They can help. So can Peach Parts down in Georgia. Philip has helped me source a lot of odd parts.

Fair warning, not every part is available, and most are black so you may need to respray them if your car isn't a black interior car.

I put the same part in my Cab this spring. Had to describe/order it from dealership...not too expensive and got mine in tan. Don't have receipt, so no part number. But. Available.

Thanks guys! This is encouraging. I will send Klobbr the requested PM for access to the PDF (I get the feeling I can pretty much get the part ordered from the local dealer as well).

Now to the next question: With the top folded down, the hole where the rear bow of the soft top latches in is visible and has no bezel or surrounding plastic cover... is there a part number for this?

Thanks,
Andres G

Depending on what you're looking for, I still have some parts left over from my cabrio partout. Most of the top is intact, but some of the trim parts have been sold. Never-the-less if you let me know what your need I can check

Hello Joef,

I will take a few pictures and post them here. Hopefully, this will give you an idea of the parts needed.

Please give me until later today.

Thanks,
Andres G

Here are the pictures of the parts the car will be needing.

This is the side panel that hides the seatbelt extender mechanism. The tabs are broken and it has been glued (poorly) to the interior panel.

This is the A-Pillar interior cover. It has been torn on the bottom side (see second picture). This one can probably be fixed easily, so no big concern there.

The headlight switch has some issues I am sure... Turn it to the first position to the right and headlights come on together with fogs. Also, high beam doesn't work.

Rearview mirror surround has parts missing.

Headrest adjustment button on passenger side is missing.

Both driver and passenger side covers for the sunvisor mounts are broken/missing.

Passenger side seatbelt extender hole molding is missing (I though this was somewhere inside the car, but I can't find it.

Trunk mounted 3rd brake light is faded and does not work.

This is the missing top latching hole cover.

Driver side backrest release button suround is missing.

Finally, my friend tells me the oil pressure indicator tends to stop working every once in a while, and that it will come back on by tapping on the instrument cluster...

Would this require a complete new cluster, or would it be best to change just the three gages on the left instrument?

Do you have any of these parts? If so, can you gimme a price for each?

Thanks,
Andres G

u got mail.

Check the pdf. Also, search ebay. Use "w124" and "300CE" in the part and accessories Mercedes Benz search.

You can sniff out a few parts that way.

I just tried to get them for my coupe from the Classic Center and was advised they are no longer available in any color...
Don't even try to take them out as they are brittle and will fall apart.
Your pieces don't look to bad and appear that you can fix to the inner panel with high strength trim adhesive.

Not only were my tabs broken but I had to rebuild the top curved edge with plastic specific two part molding epoxy..
I ended up wrapping them in place with MB-Tex..
The thickness of the MB-Tex fills the gap and is held to the inner trim with a high strength 3M trim adhesive.
I'll take finished pix next time I "visit" my coupe...

Ed A.

P.S.

You can see in the below pic the initial step of filling cracks and rebuilding the top edge....

This is the part I was talking about:

The plastic handle/grip that is located in the center of the forward arch of the soft top, which helps grab and pull the top down when it is being closed.

Oh, I see... I actually ordered it from MB Dealership - $10.5 and will be here on Friday.

Joef, I will send you a PM to see if you have any other parts available.

need top wrench and tool kit for cabrio w 124

Joef, Do you have a top wrench or complete tool kit for a w 124 cab?
I have a beauty but the tools are gone and I like to have a wrench for emergencies.
Thanks kmoradpump
