Black Smoke in exhaust

Hello,

Recently i bought a w124 E250D. The car is a dream to drive. The suspension, body line, the interior are awesome. I have been using this car as a daily drive (50 km a day).

I have noticed that the rare bumber near the exhaust gets black. So i checked by going hard on the accelerator in neutral and found that the car puts out black smoke at considerable high rmp. But on other hand the engine temperature remains normal, the engine oil level does not go down and i am getting mileage of 14.5kmpl.

I showed the vehicle to couple of specialist asking if its something related to engine with but they all said that its quite normal.

Few more details to add.

manufacturing year :1997 decemeber
ODO : 86000-87000 (range. not sure of the exact reading)

Can anyone assist me dealing with the issue or its really normal.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Black smoke means rich on diesels. I wouldn't worry about it, maybe it has a lot of carbon build up. I would get it out where you can really use heavy throttle and try to get the combustion chamber really hot to clean it up. Or just drive it really hard for a week.

Thank QS500..

I was just worried if the engine needs a overhauling or re-boring.. Hopefully that's not the case.
