Installing a FGS Switch on a W124, HELP NEEDED!
Has anyone installed a FGS switch into one of these cars, and if so, does anyone have the software the drives this thing![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Any help would be much appreciated!

I had to get a computer guy to install the software on a customers computer to actually tune this. I think it required a old version of windows to work. Do not remember exactly.

Lets be a bit more specific. This solution is a electronic first gear start, so unless you have a V8 in your car, this isn't the solution for you.
Six cylinder W124's started in 2nd gear till model year 1992, from there on they started in 1st gear. So, if you have a car that starts in 2nd gear and you want it to start in 1st, you either need to modify your valve body or get a valve body from a 92-95 W124 transmission.

i have a ? for you
i have a 86 300e 3.0 and want it to start in first gear.
now i have a parts car 1993 300e 2.8 so i can take that valve body and put it into my 86 or can i take the 93 tranny and put it directly in the 86
which would work or would both ways work

Not sure why you need a first gear start on an M103 with a 722.3 AT and 3.07 rear gear...
The overall ratio in first is 11.3 which makes it a "short" gear shifting very quickly under part throttle...
The stock second gear oa ratio is 7.4, more then enough to easily match the torque curve of the M103.
Only difference is that you'll be able to say you have a first gear start...not worth the time and effort..
The later cars with the first gear start used a different at and rear ratio..

time and effort isn't much.
about 80% of the time i am moving the shifter to 2nd gear waiting a few seconds and shifting back to 3rd so i would like to stop this action and just start in first gear. i really do like the quicker acceleration off from a dead stop.
both trannys need to be rebuilt but which one is the key?
will the 93 fit in the 86 and work properly since it has the fgs already in it and i can still drive my 86 as the other tranny gets rebuilt or do i keep the 86 tranny and take out the valve body out of the 93 and install that in the 86 with the rebuild

Even as you describe, unless you're at a hard throttle, the first gear will only hold in for a very short time...not an optimum style of driving for mechanical reliability...
Call me old fashioned but I would just rebuild what you have and not have any potential "unintended consequences" with a mod or a later model AT swap....

300E W124, 300E W124 3.4 AMG, Audi S3 2002
If you like 1st gear that much....how about a manual swap??
I am considering this for my 3.4 amg W124...but still didnt decide it its worth it or not (power wise) and i am suspicious on how this old manual tranny will feel compared to lets say my 2002 Audi S3 manual box (which is amazing feel) Also trying to keep the car as original as possible since 3.4 amg's are hard to come by, can't even find a forum member to share info with

my driving is my driving.
i have increased the shift points years ago, plus i have noticed i get better gas mileage by using the first gear start, due to moving our heavy machines. first gear gets it going easier then in second gear.
been reading and i see everybody tries to get rid of there 722.4 trannies and install the 722.3 which are more durable. so i will be rebuilding the 86 with the possibilty of the valve body from the 93
chlippo i'm not a fan of manual trannies in the city. i stall it when i listen to music or talk to people in the car with a manual because i was trained by a professional tranny specialist in how to shift by listening to the rev sound and not watching for the rpm or the shift light
thanks for the help guys.
now to decide in what shift kit and what to use from the kits
