Car will not start, wait 2 hour and it will; what's going on
1992 300 TE
Car will not start when it is not driven for a few days.
Here's what happens:
-battery will crank engine but engine will not start.
-no fuel when I check spark plugs
-no fuel when I crack gas line going to fuel distributor.
**wait a few hours maybe 2 hours, go out car will starat no problem.
What might be going on, anyone have this happen?
Only thing I could think of is fuel pump and check valve attache thereto.
I do hear the pump making sound for a few seconds when I turn key but not all the way.

had similar issues on my 95 a while back. Through searches it could have either been the OVP or the fuel pump relay. I replaced both and that sorted it out, but i did both at the same time so never figured out which one was the real issue

After you've had it running, clamp off the fuel tank line to the fuel accumulator, disconnect it and see if the fuel in the line comes racing back out. Maybe let is sit with a small plastic tub underneath to collect any fuel.
It sounds a bit like the diaphragm might have gone and it's not holding anything in the line for the start !

Mine had exactly the same symptons; 95 E320.
No start when hot, eventually leading to- cranks but won't start.
Replaced OVP. ~$78. No change. The research online, here and other places, indicated that a hot, no start situation was likely the OVP.
Replaced fuel pump relay. $38. No change. Online research indicated this was the next likely culprit after fuel pumps. Relay is much cheaper.
Replaced fuel pumps. ~$280. Fixed.

Now the situation is the car will not start at all.
Battery will crank starter.
Fuel will get to distributor from fuel pumps.
Fuel will not get to spark plugs, they are completely dry.
Now what?

Bottom line. The accumulator was bad. I replaced it with a spare from my parts car and now 300TE runs and starts as it should. Very strong motor.
After testing pumps by suppling them with 12 volt power there was nothing else to try.
