300TE 24 - EZL has died
a plea for some assistance; my beloved TE has died. the EZL appears to be faulty (everything else is ok).
I'm after an EZL with part number 010 545 95 32, which as best i can see is specific to this model (the 124.091 and the 124.061 [which is the SL]).
There are a couple of people on ebay with them, but wanting to see if there is any other places around that might have them before i launch off and buy one.
Cheers. Andrew

no spark...everything else has been tested and comes up fine. just died. fuel pumps are ok, plugs are ok, leads are ok, distributor / rotor and coil are ok...all roads lead to rome.
however, if i get a new EZL, i'll get new coil etc and put those in as well.
cheers

Have you checked the crankshaft position sensor?
Checked continuity of all the associated wiring?

is anyone able to tell me from the EPC stuff (in new zealand and not able to access the free one in the US [and the russian one doesn't seem to have it]) what other EZl numbers are compatible with for the 104.980 engine? there are a myriad of numbers floating around on the net, but given the price of these things, it's hard to know what to trust.
cheers. And much appreciated if you any one can assist.

quick update; i got lucky and picked up an EZL for NZD$250 (about 200US). A mechanic had one from a car he'd wrecked years ago.
Slapped it in and away she went. Waiting for the new coil and other parts now.
cheers all. Andrew.
PS - does anyone use the K&N filters in their cars?

yep; nice new compound (with silver in it) was smeared across the back of the unit. should be good for a few years. simple maintenance as well to clean and reapply.

You have the M104.980 engine like me, correct?
If so, I've found that the K&N filters are only a few dollars more than most places sell the OEM paper ones for, so they're quite cost effective as well as possibly providing some marginal increase in flow-through.
If you had the later m104 or the m103, I'd say they're not worth it as they'd be about 2x the cost as a paper filter.

Ok, here's an update for everyone, which is hopefully interesting.
The new EZL (an orginal unit from a 300CE 24 which has the same bosch part number as my car originally came with, and with a trimming plug / resistor cap No.3 on it) was installed a number of weeks ago. the car was since parked up waiting for some new parts to turn up.
Those new parts included a K & N filter, a new coil and a new air sensor (the one that fits on the saide of the air filter housing ), and a section of vaccum hose which had broken (connects into the pipe to the rocker cover breather, and then down to something under the air intake - not sure what it's called).
Any way, the car prior to this would run at around 90 degrees temperature, and would blow black smoke when you floored it, and generally felt ok, but sluggish.
Now, it's a different car. The engine runs at a steady 80 degrees (goes to 90 in hot weather with A/C on and stuck in traffic, but that's it), and when you floor it, the car is responsive and there is no plume of black smoke out the rear.
I wonder whether the black smoke and higher temparature are possibly indicative of a failing EZL? Either way, very happy now with the car again, as it's a joy to drive.
Does anyone have any idea about the resistor caps? do i need to run one at all? i run 95 plus octane in the car (usually 98, but safer to say 95 plus).
I've also installed a new radio and some 5 1/4 inch JBL speakers up front without too much ******** about - will post separately on that speaker install.
cheers, andrew.
