new guy

Hi, I'm tim, new to the club, from hong kong.

so I have recently been inherited my dad's 92' w124 coupe, would very much like to restore it and daily drive it, since it has a sentimental value to it. I do not know where to start... because my thoughts are all over the place. I know that i would have to replace the bushings, suspension, full car repaint, rustproof. the engine is leaking badly, and the transmission is about done... the whole car pretty much needs to be redone

I was hoping to convert it into an amg hammer replica on looks, with the wide body.

current parts at hand... c36 engine, transmission, harnesses, ecu. 94+w124 hood, 300km/h speedometer.

looking if you guys know or have input on where and what else to replace so i can drive this car for another 20 years.

much appreciated.

Hi Tim
C36 may or may not be an easy transplant You must remember your talking about a car that was early 90's with proven but dated technology. Your talking a C Class engine moving across the Class range so there may be incompatabilities in the transmission mating, drive shaft length etc. I am also thinking electronics. Coming from a C Class which was a later developed vehicle there may be some bits your W124 just doesn't have !
Read this brief on the changes to engine and some clues will come to light (note HFM Computer system mods).

AMG 3.6 L M104.941
AMG developed a 3.6 L M104 that was used in the W202 C36 AMG (W202), the W124 E36 AMG (W124) and the E36 AMG (W210) vehicles.
The AMG 3.6 M104 was rated at 280 horsepower (210 kW) at 5,750 rpm and 284 pound-feet (385 N·m) of torque at 4,000 rpm using the HFM engine management system.AMG later conceded that since the engine was hand modified, power outputs could vary slightly from 276 hp to 287 hp.
The boost in displacement was obtained by boring the 2.8 litre M104 block by 2.1MM and using a highly modified version of the crankshaft from the 3.5L OM603 to increase throw by 18.9MM; this necessitated the use of new forged pistons with shorter skirts. A larger intake crossover pipe, freer flowing exhaust, a unique intake camshaft, minor changes to the cylinder head, and modifications to the HFM fuel computer also contribute to the increase in power.
