Exhaust manifold screw plug ?
Help Information you MB'ers out there.
1995 E220 W124 Auto
.......There is a screw plug about 30 mm Dia. in the exhaust manifold, visible through an apperture in the heat baffle over the exhaust manifold.
....Is there a block water coolant extention into the exhaust manifold, and is this plug a drain plug..........or does the plug just fill a hole in the exhaust system in the manifold.
I can see a 30 mm hairline crack in the casting starting at the screw plug, and have to know whether coolant or just exhaust could burst forth through the crack. i.e. is it an urgent repair job, or can it wait till pay day.

I'm not familiar with the 220 engine. I can't imagine any coolant servicing an exhaust manifold. One method of repairing a crack is to drill out the crack and plug the hole. Could the screw have been an earlier repair of a crack?
