Considering a High-ish Mileage E320 Wagon
Hello,
I just sold our W208 Cabriolet and am looking for something practical to replace it with. I've always admired the lines of the W124's, particularly the E300/320 wagons so that's near the top of our list. I recently found a 1991 E300/320 Wagon for sale locally for $1,995 with 186K miles. It's a dealer listing and the pictures so far look great. I'm scheduling a visit to check out the vehicle this weekend. Are there any particular areas I need to look for when inspecting the car? Thrust arm bushings, timing belts, etc? I'm planning on using this car as the workhorse to commute to work every day, run errands on weekends, Home Depot and nursery runs, baby in the middle row, dog in the back section. It'll be parked on the street while our other cars get the preferred garage and back driveway parking.
Any general advice is also appreciated.

Having gone through quite a few W124's. Take it for a full inspection. Unless, of course you can do it yourself. VIN check, maintenance receipts, proper oil changes, compression check, windows go up and down, doesn't burn oil (check for blowby) tranmission shifting smoothly, have the tires pulled off, measure the thickness of the rotors front and back. Does the e brake cable work?? Stereo function, vacuum locks, radiator etc etc. As if you were buying a house. Oh yes and the full exhaust, cat, resonator, etc. Cheers.
