95 E320 wagon suspension upgrades?
This would be a family car. My dad bought it in September with just 6,900 miles. All original including tires and oil! They drove their Caddilac instead! Of course, we had the car serviced and inspected.
The original owner is around 80 years old (husband passed away last year).
Anyways, I love the car. I really like the smooth I-6, the sturdy controls, and bank-vault doors, and I also like the styling a lot!
How much does the MB sportline lower it?
What is the sportline hand/ride like?
Is it available today from dealers?
Mercedes-Benz offered an option called "Sportline" for the W201 and W124 chassis cars. This option was available in the North American market for the 1992-93 model year 190E 2.6, 1992-93 300E/300CE and 1993-95 E320/E320 Coupe. The option package included Sport Seating, wider low-profile wheels and tires, quick ratio steering, lowered ride height and a specially tuned suspension.
The suspension setup is sold by mercedesshop.com -- see http://www.mercedesshop.com/sportline_suspension.htm
Looks like you get about 1/4"drop, possibly 1/2" with thinner spring pads.
Can I keep the self-leveling rear suspension with the sportline suspension upgrade? Or should I get rid of the SLS?
Occasionaly the car is driven with 3 or 4 people. It will the "family vehicle" even though my parents don't drive it much.
The wagon my parents have was made in 10/95 and took many, many months to sell in 1996 because of the SUVs.
Can I keep the self-leveling rear suspension with the sportline suspension upgrade? Or should I get rid of the SLS?
The question is, is this what you really want to do... there are some tradeoffs with giving up SLS, particularly if "ultimate" ride comfort is a primary requirement, and you carry varying loads on a regular basis.
The few TE folks I've seen do this, waited for their SLS system to go south BEFORE they did any upgrade/replacement.
