centre armrest repair

Hello

Does anyone know how to repair the centre armrest in a 1993 400e. Somehow I damaged the door, it is no longer closing properly. There are screws on the unit. Also, I do repair the plastic latch, that keeps it lock.

Parts for that style armrest are not available....I had to buy one from a junkyard and use parts from it to repair mine.

Of course, if you are handy and can make parts fit or fix the busted ones, then all the better.

As you may or may not know...new armrest are quite expensive, unfortunately.

Potomac Auto always have decent armrest in stock cheaper than new. They are in MD and FL.

question about fans

thanks for the reply

I have a 400E, i'm a little confused about something.

forgive my terminology for parts
When are the two fans in front of the radiator suppose to turn on. Do they come when the AC or heater is activated or only when the car gets hot. I'm not sure.

Both of my fans on the front of rad were spinning all the time, i took my car to a new mechanic, he told me he fixed the problem. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to check the fans to make sure there working properly.

They should go on by themselves when the motor gets real hot (which they do)...unless the temp sensor in the front top of the motor is bad, or the wiring to it (quite common for wiring harnesses to dry up and crack on the M119 motor). Sometimes the fans themselves die out, but usually not both together at the same time. Unplug and jump the temp sensor with a screwdriver or wire to see if they come on.

Also, those 2 fans have nothing to do with the A/C or heater...they have their own fan/blower near/in the firewall on these cars.

How many miles on yours? Things usually go south on theses cars around 100-120K miles. I have 141K on mine and have been thru it all once already (thank God)...but it was worth fixing it up.

Forgive me Jim500E. But I think your assumption of the twin fans in front of the radiator is not quite right. The twin fans in front of the radiatior are activated by the pressure switch on top of the dryer bottel of the A/C system. They both run simultaniously when certain thresholds are passed. The fan for the engine cooling is the fan infront of the engine which sucks air through the radiator. THis is at least how the 300E system works. To check the function of the fans you can bridge the pressure switch on top of the dryer and the fans (both) shall run.

Acutally you are both right, the fans are dual speed and operate when the refridgerant pressure is high or when the engine is above 100C (212F).

day from hell

i was able to get the fans fixed. They do come on when the temperature reaches 100. I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic today, i slowly saw my temperature reach 120 on the dial. I was able to pull into a gas station and sit for a hour before continuing home. I have to take the car back to the mechanic on Monday.

The mechanic when fixing the fans said the dryer bottle in the car was not the right one. He recommended replacing the dryer bottle and AC switches. He told me the person who previously worked on the car had no clue as to how to connect the wires to the dryer bottle. He told me they were connected incorrectly. Also, I noticed my oil pressure drop. Pressure is falling below 1. I don't know what this means and the car is stalling a bit.
