Beautiful Mercedes...duh
Shouldn't the headlights turn off on their own?
Hey there, I have a brand new used 1990 300 TE. The car is beautiful, and everything works....I think.
Going through the instruction manual, there is no mention of the headlights turning off automatically.
So...do they? I left them on for about 10 minutes or so, and they stayed on.
I believe a lot of upper scale cars have had this little gizmo since the early 80's.
Thanks

I don't believe any of the w124's have auto shut off lights. I was corrected a few times trying to be nice informing people their lights were still on only to find out they shut off automatically. I know there are aftermarket "gizmos" to shut them off but I don't have a source. You hate to come to a car with the battery dead from leaving them on. I've done it when my stereo was blasting and didn't hear the buzzer before leaving the car.

In the market
I am sure that if you leave the headlights on long enough...eventually they will shut off. This is true regardless of what make or model of vehicle you are dealing with.

Brunelleschi....that was d*mn funny
Thanks for the input...guys.
This car has so many little engineering neatos, like, when you have the wipers on, and you put the car in reverse, that the rear wiper will automatically swipe the rear window. The memory seats...the telescopic steering column..I mean the list is mighty long.
So, I just figured the headlights would have an auto shut off.
I would not mess with the goods to put in any kind of auto shut off, but I might put a buzzer in. I had installed one in another vehicle, that when you shut the main power off, and the headlights were on, it would beep. I did like that. Sometimes, when you arrive at your location, you will sit in the car a bit, or because it is now daylight, or because it was raining, anyway, there are times when you just might leave those lights on.
Thanks again

Airbags?
Headlight washers?
Seatblet pre-tensioners?
6-disc CD changers?
Crumple Zones?
Remember, MB had these 'gadgets' long before they became mainstream in the automotive world.

Amen on that Chappy!
My 1971 250/8 Mercedes had four wheel power disc brakes, a six cylinder overhead cam engine, and four wheel independent suspension with gas-charged Bilsteins.

Chappy, those safety features were ahead of their time.
How about these unique "gadgets": courtesy lights at the foot of each door, sun shade above the rear view mirror, rear reading light switch, rear headrest retract switch, larger passenger side rear view mirror, remote fader control (ugh), and economy gauge?

Don't forget coolant temperature and oil pressure gauges in meaningful units!! Not something useless like Cold/Hot and Low/High!!
Oh, and the warning lamps for low windshield washer fluid and exterior lamp failure!! The latter can help save you a citation for a moving violation!

I was just wondering. I have two W124 '90 and a `86 and both have the "light on buzzer"; when you pull the ignition key and lights are still on, and door open.
