Emission Service Campaign 2022080005
I received this MBUSA notice in the mail yesterday as I'm sure some of you did. They want to install new ECU software in my 2014 E63 S. It looks as though for those of us in California it may at some point be a DMV requirement to get the work done. Will be interesting to see on this forum how things progress...

You must love living in Commiefornia. The thing is, no matter what the elected officials do, someday it's gonna fall into the ocean.
By the way, I have not received the letter yet and I have two cars with V6 engines in the model years listed.

I received same letter today for my 2014 E63S. I'm in Colorado but letter has same reference to the California DMV, but I can proceed through my state's emissions testing without the software "upgrade." My concern is that the forced improvement in emissions might equate to a forced decrease in performance. I'm going to wait until there is some feedback.

I've done a bit of a search on the forums and internet - this post is the only hit so far for "2022080005," and both letters received by 2014 E63 S owners despite the wording of the letter. Sort of odd.

I'll still have my other Ecu's; it is $200 for a used ecu on eBay and my tuner charged me $250 to clone each one

I have this coming today. I suspect it's the same campaign.

So, I got the letter today as well. I don't have emissions; however, this seems like a California driven ECU update for some new California standard. I'm curious as to what needs to be updated ...and... can I ask the dealer just to do my 50k service and NOT do the ECU update under this campaign? I still want my pops and crackles and awesomeness and yeah ... (sorry to jump into W212 -- I'm included in your recall campaign)

It's a standard USPS service. It's free. They send you every morning via email the picture of all the mail coming that day.

Anyone having their car serviced by the dealer needs to first check with their dealer.

I suppose until we have more info or direct experience from forum participants it's a big crap shoot to get it done. It may be completely benign, e.g. just increasing the duration of the cold-start sequence, or it may improve some aspect(s) of performance for cars that were in early model years of production and have never been updated, or it may (purposefully or inadvertently) have a negative effect on performance for all cars in order to increase emissions compliance. The latter was the case with diesel Mercedes and Volkswagens back in the mid-teens with the dieselgate scandal. After the "fix" the cars were slower and fuel economy decreased. But they burned cleaner.

My car was ordered new in Minnesota and has never lived in California, but I just looked at the hood emission sticker and it does have California emissions, which may explain why I got the letter. I don't know if every E63S was shipped with California emissions, but I'd bet they were.

Seems to be affecting only the "63" cars, which also happen to be the ones that light up the CEL with the oil pump solenoid disconnect. Interesting.
