parts sources.

being new to the fold i need to know where one can get parts without being raped. any sites, recyclers etc would help.

im currently in need of a rf headlamp housing after a parking lot hit and run by some dolt in what must have been an SUV. dented my hood slightly, damged the lens and some of the housing, but amazingly headlight was unscathed and still operates and is still properly aimed.

im being told $200 by a recycler here in la. is this about right? coz if a light housing costs that much i might as well sell the car and go back to my 1976 BMW 2002. thanks

la.
Los Angeles or Louisiana?
In any case, eBay is a good source if you set up a search and aren't in a hurry. The plastic "doors" or surrounds go for at least $75 each. It's best to go all glass European lights for $275-350 (complete kit) especially if the housing is damaged, also on eBay. I don't know the production numbers but there were probably more 300E's built than 2002. This would give the Benz the edge on parts availability and price. There are many parts sources, just do a search in this forum.

There is a fellow who will sell a Bosch or Hella Euro light kit (includes instructions and the proper connectors) for about $300. I forget who he is or the name of his company. Hopefully those posts are still around...

I've found importvision.com in Simi Valley sells them for the least inexpensive but add the shipping, bulbs, connectors, and lower panels get's you to at least $275 which you will have to source. Another eBay seller, john@katmac.com has a complete kit including white corners for ~$275 + $25 shipping. Remember, there's a range since bidding can drive up a price. I've purchased from both and prefer the complete kit which saves trips to the dealer and auto store. The Hellas have the added chrome reflector at another $100-300 more. Some say they aren't much better than the OEM replacements but it depends how much you want to spend. I believe Bosch are the genuine Benz lights and are prices as such.

John's south of you in Indio, CA. You may need to check if they take pickup. There are alot of Benz parts sources in LA.
