Question 190E 2.6 oil leak

Greetings:

I am buying a 1992 190E with a 2.6 litre. I can see it has an oil leak. I haven't looked closely but my research tells me it is likely a head gasket.

Has anyone had this problem? Will it get worse?(it is minor at this time)

Is it just an external problem, or is there internal leakage as well?

Are the heads susceptible to warpage, or is it simply a matter of replacing a gasket.

Many Thanks

260E , 1989 (for now)
There could be 2 sources ouf exterior oil leak;
1) front/right side of engine: Most likely the front cover seal/gasket. Faily minor (in terms of $$$) to fix. Some shop won,t do this job without also replacing the head gasket.
2) Head gasket: Normally back/right corner of engine. More major ($$) job. when this job is done, the front engine cover has to come out anyway, so this seal is redone (See No.1)
If you have the head gasket replaced, it is advisable to have a serious look at the valve guides while the head is off. If over 100,000mi, these probably show some wear. If not, at least replace the valve seals.
good luck

Oil leak 190e

I have just read the post regarding an oil leak in a 1992 190e. I would like price ranges for the repair of the front cover seal gasket & head gasket. I understand that one is minor and the head gasket is more expensive. What am I to expect as far as cost?

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you find the help you need. You may have better luck getting specific assistance with your W201 190E if you post this in the W201 section instead of the W124 section.
