steering wheel

Hi. Anybody know how I can make my steering wheel look like new? My steering wheel looks old and worn and I am wondering if it's possible to replace the wrapping material that is stitched on the steering wheel instead of replacing the whole wheel.

Thanks

I just sent my AMG wheel for new leather re-wrap to these folks: www.aglausa.com
They were much more reasonable than the $400+ quotes I got locally.

KIWI cream shoe polish

Try the link to learn more about black KIWI shoe polish cream on the steering wheel. It worked great for me, highly recommended.

Brabus/Victor Steering Wheel - NEW

If you're interested, I have a Brabus/Victor steering wheel new in the box that would make a huge improvement over the stock steering wheel. Let me know (626)375-2082 Eric.

I'll post a pic when I get my AMG wheel back. I am changing colors from Tan to Black so dye or the shoe polish wouldn't work. Plus the wheel get's alot of heat and hand wear so new leather is the best solution. My stock molded rubber wheel currently has an aftermarket leather cover that's not too bad but I want to install period AMG parts. I found out AGLA upholstered alot of these italian wheels back in the '80's.

I was going to use their service to replace my wheel on a 95 E320 that was DESTROYED by Mothers Leather Cleaner. It turned the surface of the wheel into slimmy mess that took alot of work to remove. Awful stuff. Anyway, I found a new one (NOS) locally and put it on. Looks and feels great.

Gooey Mess From Leather Cleaner

I got that same gooey mess with that Leatherique leather cleaner/rejuvenator. I guess leather cleaner is the wrong thing for the steering wheels. The shoe polish is great! It saved me from having to replace my steering wheel. They are just too expensive and for me, it is just not worth it. I am very satisfied with my steering wheel now that I use the shoe polish on a regular basis. I think it gets better the more you use it.

Apparently the MB steering wheels have a plastic type "coating" on them. I forget where I read that but it makes sense. That is probably what is reacting with the leather cleaners.
