W124 front bumper with pictures: A/C vs no A/C

hello there

i want to know why some bumpers are grilled and others are not. i guess it's because of A/C. (grilled bumper for A/C) can anyone confirm this?

I have a 1989 300ce 2DR Coupe with A/C and it has the grilled lower air dam, as we call it in the autobody industry. I think you're right about why there are two options but I'm not sure. Makes sense though!

I have a 1989 300 CE 2DR sedan with A/C and it has the grilled lower air dam as we call it in the autobody industry. I didn't know there were two options but it makes sense to me. I bet you're right.
