16 inch rim & tyre question

i have a stock standard 300ce-24 and plan to upgrade my wheels to 16in*7.5in (et 40) without any other modifications. My question is,will the tyre size of 225*55 fit without any rubbing problems? I am looking for ride comfort & a meaty look.By my calculations,it's only the rear of the front wheel arch which my be a concern, leaving, at worst only 10mm between the tyre & rear of the front wheel arch at it's closest point. Is this enough to allow the wheels to turn fully & to also perform their suspention tasks without any rubbing problems? If someone knows the answer or even has this combination with a photo of the car, then it will be much appreciated.

I'm running the exact same setup on my W124CE.

I found it works just fine with no rubbing except that I had to remove the front mudflaps because they were rubbing.

on a E420 W124 rubs slightly in front when turning sharply at high speeds so this might rub a little bit with the mudflaps as SP!IKE said

I'd say go for 225/50/16 rather than 225/55/16 because 225/55/16 is 500E's standard size tire. (Too big for non 500s)

I've seen a 300CE w/ 225/50/16 and it looked sweet!

I agree, I have 225/50/16 in the rear on my car and they work great. The 225/55/16 sidewalls will be to thick and look not that sporty.

Mercedes E320 , Lexus IS350
go with either 225/50/16 (less sidewall but more gap between fender and wheel)
or
215/55/16 (not as wide but it should be good for the 7.5)

i doubt neither would rub

hey sp!ke, i love to see a side profile shot of your car, cause i have ordered my 16in*7.5in rims and my prefered tyre choice is the 225*55 which is what you say you have , and no rubbing problems.

thanks to all for your advice. I ,ll be receiving my 16in 8-hole benz wheels soon & will fit either the 225*50 or 215*55 or 225*55, as i'm still undecided.
