Help Buying 91 300CE
Im looking to buy a 91 300CE thats for sale locally. The speedo says the mileage is 85K and looks decent. Is there anything specific to look at on these cars before buying one?
What ive seen wrong with the car -
above drivers door the clear coat is peeling on in 2 spots, other than that the paint is nice.
There is some brown rust on the lip of the trunk, right at the black trim piece, below the star and 300ce emblem.
The trim panel on the lower half of the car on the fender between the wheel and the door is loose.
The dealer was closed when i looked at it and am planning on going tomorrow or the next to take it for a drive and look at it more thoroughly.
Is there anytyhing specific to this car to look for? Anything specific to MB to look at?
Thanks in advance

Get a good look at the history to make sure the mileage is genuine... and check it with a fine tooth combe as these cars will do 200,000 miles and still look like new if cared for.
Make sure head gasket is OK, and that all electrics including AC work as they should.
Rust on the trunk lid where you describe is quite common... make sure it hasnt started anywhere else or start taking the cost of a complete respray into account when negotiating the price.... in fact I'd try and play that game anyway with the dealer to see if you can get the price down.
The lower trim on the door is often loose around the rear corner of the door... an easy fix with a new clip for $1.
Make absolutely sure the gearbox changes smoothly through all the gears with no hesitation or jerkiness.
Sounds like a nice car once the paintwork is sorted. If the cars genuine and the price is right, I'd go for it, throw it in the bodyshop and cherish it for many years to come.
Good luck

Just did a carfax report on the car. It doesnt have 85k. It has more like 184k and like 8 owners. Must have put a new speedo cluster in it. Oh well
