Wait...gas in oil!?

So I posted about the engine type in my previous thread because I thought I had water in the oil (I'd still like to know the engine type). My neighbor pulled the dipstick and noticed it smelled like gas...hardcore. What would cause gas to get into the oil? If I can save replacing the head gasket I'm more than happy to.

pull the spark plugs to see if they're wet w/gas.

Check all hoses. any cracks/holes in vacuum hoses can cause overly rich condition. Maybe get an emissions test too???

I can't get it to run long enough to get an emissions test. I've been slowly trying to find all of the vacuum hoses and check them over. I think the maintenance on this car was lacking the last 6 months or so but it does run at least. I'm thinkin maybe the first step might be spark or fuel/air mix. It sounds like it's running under water when I'm cranking sometimes. If I dribble some gas in the intake I get a little flame back out of it.

If your injectors leak down after the car shuts off, the gasoline usually ends up in the oil.

So the car runs amazing now. New plugs and two tanks with seafoam. I've had no repeat of injectors leaking. Discovered the power steering pump has a freaking hole in the side. I have no idea how he accomplished this. But I don't seem to be losing much fluid which is weird. $300 for a new one... yikes!

has this car been sitting a long time?

Odd that fresh gas would fix this if not sitting.

Yes a few months before I bought it. I was thinking maybe the Seafoam unstuck an injector that was dirty and.leaking. He mentioned that the engine bucked and lost power before he.parked it, so I don't really know all of the details. Marginal maintenance probably contributed.

Update: Car runs great, no sputtering, loads of power. Been driving it a lot, also noticed it appears gas is getting into the oil again. Would leaky injectors really release enough to spoil the oil in a month even while I'm driving it a ton? My plan is to replace the injectors if I can find a good guide .

Leaky injectors would cause that, ya.
You say you're driving it a lot, but are there lots of short trips? If so, the oil may not be getting up to temp enough to burn off the contaminants. Short trips would def. exasperate even more.

Wait, so you think driving it some long trips would burn the gas out of the oil?! Is that possible?

I'm guessing you mean a tiny bit that the injectors leak into the cylinder? I take the car out on the highway two or three times a week, I guess that's not enough. Maybe I just have an injector flooding the cylinder in between starts.
