Self Levelling Suspension
I had a load in the car today and when I unloaded the car it did not come back up to level. It is now sitting very low in the rear.
I left it for a while..... started it up and one side came back up but one is still low, there is barely half an inch between the top of the tyre and the lip of the rear wheelarch:
Has the accumulator on one side failed? or what else could be wrong.
Has anyone posted this problem before?
It's a 1990 230TE by the way.
Thanks in advance.

Yes it is. The fluid is pumped by a unit on the front of the engine block though to the rear wher two accumulators are pressurised to pump up the rear when a load is applied. There is a "valve " in the middle at the diff. which is connected to mechanical arms which are connected by rods to the rear shocks which set the level. The fluid level has gone up. I assume there was a gap to allow for expansion but now the resevoir is full to the top.
Found out today that the accumulators were replaced about 4 years ago so i'm thinking it's not them.
When I rev the engine the rear of the car lifts back to normal position but drops back down when i let off the throttle.
Is it possible that the level regulator is defective? Is this why the resevoir is now full?
The suspension does not feel bouncy, but it is noticeable that there is less travel

hi there
i was told:
1) suspension works at over 2000rpm engine speed.
2) there is a valve which either releases all the pressure so that the back sinks, or holds the pressure so that the back stays up - the choice is yours.
cheers
sebastian.
