1992 300CE Hard Start
I inherited a 1992 CE that is in great shape. It does have a couple issues... one is that it has a hard time starting, either cold or hot.
Turns over, attempts to start and stops.
Will eventually start, but when it does it sounds "hollow" like something in the engine compartment is "open" and sucking air.
After a couple seconds, it's like something resets and the car runs normally.
Sometimes, the car will hesitate and sputter when putting in drive or reverse, then will correct and be fine.
I guessed that it was the Idle Control Valve, so I bought a new one and replaced it. No joy. when I replaced it, I inspected the boots that connect it, and they appeared soft/flexible and didn't see any cracks or anything wrong with them. I also checked the intake and it was clean.
My father-in-law chased this issue and spent a ton of money with Mercedes before he gave me the car, and they couldn't ever solve the issue either.
Hopefully someone here will have an idea.
