1989 300 TE front brake rotors - bearings?

1989 300 TE front brake rotors - bearings?
I just brought my car in yesterday to have the front rotors resurfaced. I was told a quote of $120 because they figured that the front rotors could not come off without first taking off the bearings. THus the bearings would have to be pulled, then the rotors, resurface them and then repack the bearings and put it all back together again. Is this true with the 300 TE? I looked in my manual and it looks to me like the rotors mount overtop of the bearings and are allen bolted onto a backing plate which is all one assembly with the bearings intact. So the need to take the bearings off is not necessary. Anyone know about this? Cheers in advance for the help!

The mechanic is wrong. You are correct; the brake disc is secured to the wheel hub with one hex screw. Also, you are better off buying new discs instead of having the old ones resurfaced. Get a set of ATEs; price is decent.

Bring a print-out of the job from the shop manual for removal and replacement of the brake disc as proof of your case. Just don't tell him "Someone on the Internet told me."

Well I only managed to get back $22 from that cheap bugger! So it cost me about $110 CDN to have the rotors machined and a tire swapped on the back with my spare.
