100km/h (60mph) with 3000RPM?

Is my 92 200E engine running with high RPM (100 km/h or 60m/h with 3000RPM)? What can I do to lower it so that I can get better gas mileage? It is an auto tran car with 155k km (97k mile) on the odo.
Thanks.

I'm getting the same readings from my odo too. I think Singapore's 2 litre W124 has a closer gear ratio as compared to european's higher capacities W124.

Thx Sebastian and Imperial. You have cleared my doubt. Have an impression that it should be around 2500 rpm when the car is running 100km/h
