I got used to that sound. It's suppose to be useful though. If you forgot to turn of your headlights before leaving the car it will beep. If you forgot your key in the car it will beep. I think you can probably disable the sound behind the instrument cluster... not sure.

Useful - yes, but the damn thing buzzes everytime I start my car! What does that accomplish??
I was considering doing something about that noise in my car. A chime would be considerably more pleasant and accomplish the same warning. The actual buzzer is buried in the mess behind the instrument gauge panel and very difficult to get at, so I dropped that project.

i think (so dont quote me) the beeeeeing or the buzzzzzzzzzing is something that MB has carried over from the older cars....... i.e. w123 Diesels. (atleast this is what i think) the reason im assuming this is because i was taught when starting my 300D that i should not fully turn the key clockwise (i.e. turning the ignition on) until the beeeeeeeeeee or the buzzzzzzzzing sound turns off. I guess this gives the car time for the battery to charge itself up for ignition. BUT.... i think the charging the battery up stuff is more important for the diesel powered engines more so than the gasoline ones.....
My two cents

The reason you wait to start the car is because it is a D-I-E-S-E-L, you must wait for the glowplug light to turn off before you start the engine.
The buzzing sound and Red SRS Light have nothing to do with starting the car.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Yup ladies hate it...
I don't love it, but it has saved my *** a few times (leaving my headlights on) when I simply ignored the similar 'chime' in my Toyota.. and I got stranded...
so now I just get used to putting 'my' seatbelt on before turning the key anywhere...
