E320 Buying advice

Hey all:

I'm thinking of buying a 1995 E320. I'm pretty much a gearhead, but I don't know much about a Mercedes. The specific things I've been told to look at are: head gasket, wiring harness update, and the "EA": all at about ~100K miles. Are there other things to look at, or be aware of?

All of the "regular stuff" seems to check out: no wrecks, good paint, *great* interior, ALL the records from day one from the local Mercedes dealer, local car, no funny business with the title, blah blah blah..... The car has 101K miles.

Can I expect one of these cars to go ~200K with regular maintenance?

What kind of $$$ are we talking? (I know that's a pretty broad question)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also if someone could direct me to some informational websites, that would be great too.

I'm sure these questions have been asked before, so I'm sorry if I took up too much bandwidth.

Thanks again for everything

Best Regards to all

Jim Rollins

One trick I learned about buying these cars from a delaer, when looking for body damage/repair, all the major body panels like hood, door, trunk and quarterpanels, will have a factory sticker with the VIN number on them if they are original. If they are replacement, there will be a sticker saying REPLACEMENT in big red letters where the VIN sticker should be. Having the books is definately a plus. Any maintainence item that is not documented as being replaced within the last given mileage interval you should assume will need to be replaced as soon as you purchase the vehicle, i.e transmission filter in the last 30,000 miles. If you can get a copy of Stu Ritter's W124 Owners bible he has a chapter dedicated to buying a used W124. Good Luck.
