Questions on the 1990 300E

I just bought a 1990 300E with 155K miles for 3 thous. Everything is in good condition, how good of a car is it? To be honest, i dont know crap about the Mercedez cars. It also has the AMG sign in the back, was this added on by a previous owner because im pretty sure it isnt a AMG right? It also has the Sportline logo on the left side of the car, what is this?. Ive been searching through the website and nada.

lol be easy on me

I bought a 1991 300E about 10 months ago with 136K miles on it. I'm very impressed by how well it runs. I have a lead foot and do a lot of long distance highway driving and the car has performed flawlessly. Older Benz's are built to last. On one particular trip between Toronto and London (approx. 2hrs) I averaged about 115mph and the car ran great.

Enjoy it.

1991 300E
I've bought two used Mercedes from around the same year as yours, a 1992 190E that I had for a year before somebody hit me and totaled the car, and a 1991 300E that I currently drive. Both cars had over 100k miles when I got them but were in incredible shape for their age. It has been my experience with these cars that used mercedes fall into one of two categories, Cars that have been well cared for and maintained by their owners; and Cars that have been flat out abused. It's amazing after going to look at so many used benz's that they almost always have EITHER immaculate interiors, good paint, clean service records even after 10 plus years, OR, they are total pieces of crap that someone has dogged out, rode hard and put up wet. If you've only got 3 grand in the car you may be tempted to not put a dime in it and drive it till it dies. However, these cars were made to be serviced regularly. If properly taken care of, they will last well over 250k miles. If you want a car that you just put gas in and change the oil every 10,000 miles, get a jap car. My $.02 worth, Matt.

Sounds like an AMG badge just stuck on. The Sportline option was available in the UK in 1989 (but only on the 24v) and didn't get to the US until 1992 so again, probably just a badge.
For more info on Sportline ..http://www.mercedesshop.com/sportline_suspension.htm
