What the dealer did.....
I recently left my car into a dealership to have some bodywork (rear door being replaced) repaired - under an insurance claim.
Just before I was about to travel down to pick up the vehicle, I recieved a call from the boss of the garage - telling me that he or one of his mechs were having trouble getting the car to idle, i.e the rpms in P were moving wildly up and down (550-1500rpm) then stalling - They told me that they had adjusted the idle speed higher, (!) (only the manual adjustment on te throttle body (?). I was, of course, very alarmed by this, as there had been NOTHING wrong with the engine when I gave the car to them.
I reluctantly took the car back ( mistake ). They suggested I get the injectors cleaned. I noticed all presets & bass/treble controls were erased on my CD player. ( could this be an electrical clue ? )
At the moment the car drives - but in P it rests at 1500rpm and in D it sits at 975rpm - causing it to lurch when the brake is released.
The car idled before this at around 650rpm for a long long time...
please help with this ....
I'm not sure whether I should bring the car back to them and insist they repair it. any ideas what the cause could be ?
thanks in advance.
Make them fix it.
thanks for your post . .. . . .
I am trying to get them to take the car back, but it is proving difficult. They insist that they did nothing to it doh.
I think it has P-Motronic fuel injection, a system only used on the E200 model here in europe (according to my handbook ????). I guess I'll have to take it elsewhere to be repaired after all, hopefully it won't involve fitting a trail of new fuel parts before I find the troublesome one.
Still trying to pin it on them -
All the best
