Question thinking about painting my grill black...

Hey guys,

I need your opinion about something. Do you guys think I should paint my grill black and if it will look good? I'm not sure if either flat black or glossy paint paint would look good. any suggestions? here's a picture below on how it looks nice. Use that to help your ideas.

Well, it obviously has a big chip out of it on the drivers side lower part....not sure how painting it is really going to help that. Might make it less noticible I guess. I'd say flat black...stove paint.

Or...you could just buy a replacement insert, not too much $.

haha yeah that chip is pretty obvious but that wasnt really the point though. It doesnt really bother me. but could I just buy that piece of the grill rather than the whole thing?

Sooooo...do you think it will look good black though Strider93? Stove paint?

here's what my friends black grill looks like. but I just want to know if it will look good on MY car.

Black is good

I think black always look s better than the gray. I used stove paint. It is flat black and seems to be holding up without chips or anything. You just want to use very thin coats of paint, so you can easily slide the chrome trim back onto the groves. A new grille insert isn’t very expensive, so you could get a new one and paint it black to get rid of the chip.

This is a panoramic view of my 1995 E320.

ksing44, very nice grill you got there. I'll do it sometime this week and I'll keep you guys posted when I am done. So I guess Flat black is the choice and not gloss?

I would do a darker shade of grey than black, but that's me

Anyways, nice 944 in the background. Really shiny

Yeah, I was actually thinking about doing a darker shade of grey, but then I thought about it and since everything else is black on my car other than the bumpers and side panels. but still one problem. I dont think what shade oh black...Flat Black, Semi Gloss Black or Glossy Black...what do YOU guys think?

Yeah, that 944 is a real nice car and is pretty quick. It's going down the ****ter though and is breaking down so it's not really driven anymore.

I might not be much help, but

Mine is a 1995, so it is a little different, but mine had 6 bolts. Maybe you are just missing one or two bolts. Mine are kind of tucked away under some weather stripping.

I think I remember something about the emblem having to be removed on the older grilles. I am not sure about it, but I think I remember something like that.

How Abt my car?

i would like to paint my grill black also and i was wondering if i painted it flat black would it loook good. I do not know how to paint anything nor where i could buy the paint. I believe this paint would have to endure high temperatures?. From what ive seen, we just spray the primer on and paint the grill?

If memory serves me there are more bolts along the top and I believe behind the rubber, you can feel them with your finger! Get them off and you in bitness! I used flat black BBQ grill paint that you can get at any hareware store. Holds up well!

There are four bolts at the top that hold the grill to the hood. Then there are two on the sides. Once the grill is removed, there will be a bolt in the middle at the top and four clips ... two on each side that holds the grill to the frame.

Personally, I would go with a flat black and something not to shiny for your car. Also, armor all those bumpers so they look black again. lol

Armor All Original ... the product. If you use it on your bumpers. Such as the black impact strip, it'll make it look like new again. Your bumpers look a little faded and what not. Maybe it's dirty? A little enhancement wouldn't hurt.

Problem With Painting!!!!!!11

o man i had a big mishape while taking off my grill. I accidently snapped that one piece that u pull to open the hood. O NO!!! anyone no where i can get a replacement for this and how much it would cost? Well so far i took the grill and sprayed it with primer and coated it twice with paint. Hopefully putting on the grill (which is a big pain in the ***) would not cause anymore problems. Please let me know if you have a replacement hood clip or know where i can get one.
