air injector pump not getting signal

Hi every one,

I have a E320, 1994 which I’ve made some maintenance to it and then I got stuck in a new thing in between.

· I’ve changed the timing chain.

· Coated the cam cover.

· Put all wires which were side lifted back again.

· Can was wonderful and everything is ok.

· Done it comfortably cause harness was done previously by the previous owner.

· But noticed air injector is not running again in early starts.

· After digging in the net reached to K17 relay which was working fine.

· got a very good chance to compare between my car and my friend car both E320 1994, non-ASD edition.

· Cleared some of the insulation to check the wires condition and they were perfect.

When comparing both cars relay k17, found the following:

1. the hand drawing attached as follows: the center fully colored circles in red are the one with the signal.

2. The one marked with (?) in my car giving high signal but the proper car it’s not completely.

3. In my car the center pole next to (?) terminal gives irritated semi low signal, in the proper car its giving high signal.

4. The harness goes all the way to the battery side of the car which is the right side so logically when traced it reached to the ECU. So, I thought maybe the ecu is faulty and giving leaked current to (?) pin in one way or the other.

5. So disconnected the ECU and checked the connectivity and yes, it giving the ecu reading both pins…this is only to ecu.

6. But when disconnected ECU terminal still K17 relay pins (?) giving the power signal from the multimeter.

7. How the K17 is connected to the air injector pump and no relay or ECU is connected.

8. I haven’t seen any connection or harness going to the fuse box. All going to the ECU area and yet I don’t know why there is signal in the K17 connection and yet shorting it out.

9. I believe there might be some other device connected to this relay and maybe in one way or the other it shortening out and leaking the current to the (?) pole.

10. I removed all the fuses one by one and relay in the same area but there no changes.

11. When connected the air injector directly 12v its working fine.

If any one has any clue plz advice cause its freaky.

Thanks, and regards,

Moe

Most people with your issue would be advised to get a new DELPHI harness meant for your year model and move on.
I have seen those general comments in various forums. I had a 1995 E320 and had the harness replaced 18 years into ownership before I sold the car.

But your specific problem I have not seen addressed and you said you replaced the harness already. Make sure it is for the correct year and model.
I have seen comments about using the wrong harness for the Year of Manufacture.

You have been reverse-engineering the issue I see and sometimes that is not that easy.

Sorry I do not have the know how to help you as I do not even have your model any longer.

dear dolucasi,
thanks a lot for your kind reply, but as I said earlier the harness was remade again by previous owner and things were ok till I changed the timing chain and then this came up. I know its fuzzy and doesn't make sense but the is the nightmare that I'm living with.
as I said earlier if anyone has the knowhow or knows someone who knows this car really good I would appreciate the help.
that funny pin is getting the signal from somewhere which I don't know an answer to.
