1993 300CE24 Correct part number for fuel distributor

Hello everyone,

I'm planning on rebuilding the fuel distributor for my car. I was checking the part number on it and found 0 438 101 012. A bit of googling and it says it's for 260e and 300e 12v not 24v. I consulted a friend who knows a thing or two about these cars and he insisted it's the correct number. However, i have my doubts since the wiring harness was hacked into by the previous owner and he installed a 12v EZL PN 008 545 62 32. I installed the correct one 012 545 20 32.

I have 2 spare fuel distributors PN 0 438 101 044 which research says is the correct one for the m104.980.

Were both of these distributors fitted to these cars or mine has the wrong one installed?

And is the ~15hp difference between the 300CE24 and 300SL24 due to fuel distributor difference or something else?

Many thanks in advance

I know it's been a while since you post, however if you haven't found an answer these folks can be helpful. https://www.fuelinjectionproducts.com/ I suspect both may have gone on a W124 24v, however there are subtle changes. Mine is a California car which has a few things different as a result of emission compliance. Let us know what you found / find out. Best of luck.

I highly doubt that a 24V M104 has a materially different FD than the 12V M103.
Let's remember that the same distributor is used for 8V M102 and 16V Cossworth engines with different fuel delivery with 30% more HP.
Also the 2.6L and 3.0L 12V engines use the same FD.

Furthermore, the EHA for all engines are the same from 2.3L 4 cylinder to 5.6L 8 cylinder engines.

The fuel flow is adjusted by the ECU and particularly the EHA current supplied by the ECU.

All this being said I would consult Flowtech who are experts in rebuilding FD's. You can always swing by the Mercedes dealer and they will tell you the part number.
At this point in time I assume all the 4, 6, 8 cylinder car part numbers have been unified to 3 part numbers that supersede the old part numbers.

I used this website: https://www.bosch-classic.com/de/en which pointed me that the correct number for m104.980 is indeed 0 438 101 044 and not the one installed in my car (0 438 101 012).

I'm not sure about the difference between the 2 distributors but after consulting several specialists, the m104.980 will run on a m103 fuel distributor. However, m103 injectors have to be used since they are different from m104.980. Also as stated, the 2.6 and 3.0 m103s use the same FD

The difference in HP between the 300ce24 and 300sl24 is due to the ECU. According to the people I consulted, simply swapping the ECUs and verifying all parameters (pressures etc), you can gain about 10 HP on a 300ce24
