What color is my car?
Dumb question? Yeah, I thought so too. My 1990 300 TE wagon is either a champagne, goldish, or beige color. But when I went to the dealer to buy some touch up paint, he asked for the vin. I gave it to him...he gets on his computer and says that it is "smoked silver". I proceeded to argue this..hehe...and asked him to come take a look. He came outside, and from about 40 yards away, said "yes, that is smoked silver". I figured that maybe MB just got a little strange with their color names. I asked for the touch up paint, and he pulls out a paint with a silver stripe around it. I said...look at this...THAT IS SILVER...THE CAR IS NOT THIS COLOR. He said yes it is. I asked if this model had come in a champagne...and he said it did, but that he did not have that touch up in stock.
This car has not been repainted, and I have another 1990 300TE that is exactly the same color.
There is a picture of it in the sticky thread page 16. But on computer, that picture, the car looks grey or silver, which would be nice as well, it just isnt what color the car appears to be.
So I ask the question...what color is my car??? :o

Don't waist your time anymore, just go to a local auto paint store, you know, where the body shops buy paint, and they wil get you what you need.

I guess I am a believer. I called there today with the vin to my other car, and got the same response. Paint code is 702...smoke silver. I then asked if they had the touch-up in stock. He checked and said they did not. Now I am wondering if the bonehead I saw on Friday brought out the wrong silver touch-up paint....because that sucker was SILVER.
Thanks guys

Yea, they do seem to call everything a silver of some sort, I cant remember what exactly they called my '87 (somehting like forest green), where it is nowhere near what i think forest green is.

Smoke Silver
My car is smoke silver as well. I believe it is now re-named as desert silver.
Anyhow, the touch up paint code on the bottle is A 000 986 04 50
and it is called "702 rauchsilber met" (all the writing on the bottle is in German)
It might be cheaper for you to go to a good body shop and see if they can mix you up a bottle. I think I bought the factory touch up paint from the dealer for about $35 CDN.

Original Floor Mats for Smoke Silver '96 E-320
Can someone tell me what color original MB floor mats would match smoke silver?? The options I have on the site are parchment and saddle for the 96 E-320. I have no clue what the color is although it looks like beige to me.
Thanks

Fyi---
Rauch is German for smoke. 702 is the right one, but you're going to find it almost impossible to do any touch up work on that paint without making a mess. It just doesn't co-operate without the clear. Should come as a two bottle kit in USA. No matter, still works lousy. See if a dealer or smart body shop in your area has anyone who does airbrush touch up work. That's about your only hope with smoke silver.

Also forgot...
most interiors for smoke cars are parchment. Saddle is much darker/browner. As you are calling your car a 96 E 320, should we assume it's a 210 and not a 124?

OK, last thing...
smoke silver is not renamed desert silver. The desert is substantially darker than the old 702. There is also the later pewter silver, but neither of these were available until I believe MY 2000, and not on any 124.
