supercharging 89 - 91 e-class

hi all,
what could be the required steps in supercharging 89 - 91 e-class.. i will probably be using a Kompressor supercharger or a generic 3-liter superchager..

i want it all DIY as i cant afford to pay for a mechanic who would do a crappy job.. actually cant find someone who is experienced enough to be trusted for supercharging benz..

will the car adjust itself or i will have to manually adjust it..

pumping more air means more complete combustion and hence less fuel will be needed to generate the given power of the engine.. i would like to have a switch to select between fuel economy and power..means at economy mode the engine doesnt generate more than its rated power hence logically less fuel will be needed due to super charger how ever in power mode extra fuel is pumped in creating extra boost at times when needed

I'm just speculating here as I have no experience with super chargers whatsoever. However, I have always been under the impression that super/turbo charging an engine decreases fuel economy. Yes you are flowing more/denser air but you are also flowing more fuel. The extra air you are forcing into the cylinder must be accompanied with extra fuel. I have always thought that a supercharger just allows you to force a greater volume of fuel AND air into the cylinder and thus produce more power. Plus I would think that any gains you get from a more complete fuel burn would be offset by the energy you loose from having to turn that spuecharger fan. I guess my bottom line thinking is that IF Supercharging an engine produced a noticable improvement in fuel economy, you would see superchargers on all the econobox cars to boost mileage.

sounds right.. ok i live in saudi arabia we get fuel at the rate of water here i dont care abt economy i was just thinking about having longer time between refills.. anyway still searching for a total DIY on supercharging e-class 300 89-91..

but i think the logic goes this way.. super charging increases power output so u dont need too much acceleration in city driving.. means engine run at low rev range..!!

Can't help you on a DIY kit for the supercharger. As far as more power vs. lower rpm during acceleration, You have to think of this in terms of tehrmo dynamics. An engine converts gasoline into energy. Heat and exhaust fumes are the by product. There is a set amount of energy available in a gallon of gas. Super charging an engine does not change how much energy is in that gallon of gas. It mearly allows your engine to burn more gas than is normally possible with a naturally aspirated engine. So yes, you would be producing more power at lower rpm's but you would also be burning more gas all the while, thus negating any real improvement in your fuel economy. If you really want to improve your gas mileage, there are much easier ways to do that other than supercharging your engine. If your car is manual transmission, then you have a plus right there. Running the car in the overdrive setting on an a car with automatic transmission will help too. The most efficient mode to drive your car in with the engine turning the lowest possible rpm in the highest possible gear.

i need power.. who cares abt fuel.. hehe..well just looking for basics on installation if supercharger.. i understand pretty much logic behind it.. someone who has experience in installing them can kick me off in right direction.. the main information i need is how compressed air will be pumped into intake manifold..and adjustment to fuel injection!!

Turbocharging the 300e would probably be easier (lots of room on the exhaust side of the engine).

I think something you should look at is putting a v-8 into your 300e instead of wasting time supercharging it. Besides I don't believe the fuel system would be able to handle more horsepower but I could be wrong.

if i need V8 i would rather buy it.. what i am looking here is not permenant power but some boost on demand.. other wise im happy driving inline 6 alone

if you are just after boosted horses for blowing some clown away at the stoplight why not a shot of nitrous oxide? shut it off and the car is stock again. i would love to have a supercharger on mine too though. maybe when it's paid for.

I agree, a nitrous system would be much easier, cheaper and, if properly installed, less harmful to your car's engine. You get your 50-100 extra horses on command, and you still get your stock fuel economy.

Bozo??????

if you didn't want everyone's two cents, you should have said from the get-go that you were wanting to add a supercharger, not something that gives you boost on demand and then normal gas mileage, more power always equals more fuel and wear on the engine. i think i speak for everyone who has took the time out to give you advice on this thread when i say................ go f yourself.
