Question Install speakers in door panels 87 300E?

I want to install some 6.5's in the doors of the 87 300E I just got. I was hoping I would find some info in a forum where someone had done something like this. There is room, but it will take a lot of work. On the front door I am thinking of cutting out the existing map compartment on the bottom of the door panel and attaching a similar shape wooden frame that will stick out farther and have a compartment in the lower front for installing speakers. I am fairly good at woodworking so I was thinking of building frames out of cherry or something that matches the fake trim fairly well. Then I would attach these frames to the door panels. The 4" dash speakers just aren’t going to cut it. Can someone direct me to sites where modified stereo systems have been installed in a W124 to help me get some ideas?

Have you thought about about getting custom fiberglass door pods made to accomodate the new speakers?

Thats a lotta fiberglass! It looks good though, I like fiberglass because of the cool shapes that can be made, plus its paintable.

Whoa! thats not my car, that is a 300E that is currently on Ebay. I just used it to show an example of fiberglass work.
