Hi all, I have a 87 300D, I can’t seem to keep the antenna working properly for very long, I’ve made two so far, it will either go up and not down or visa versa. Sometimes nothing..does anyone have a good solution of something that will work? A new Hirschman is over 300 bucks, I live in Canada so double that with duty, exchange and shipping.
Yours has the antenna switch at the dash.
Make sure that works reliably.
It also has the radio on/off feature.

Some aftermarket radios do not have the radio on/off signal. So this wire has to be bypassed (I believe it needs to be tied to 12V). It is blue in color.
It may even be that you are not getting a clean 12V from the radio (it could be too weak) and sometimes it works. Tie that to 12V and make sure that is not a problem.
The antennas generally work or they do not so I'm guessing either the switch or the radio on/off function or both are not reliable.
I assume you already opened up the antenna and cleaned up the inside and re-greased the mast/gears/etc. So you must be way past that stage.
