'92 500E
Should be a close one but I think I'll bet on the SL500.
After 11-12 years our 500's may not be putting out all those original 320-326 horses

PS. Your E500 has the '94 look but below the picture says '92, is it a '93 or a '92 model ???

SL
it has the same displacement engine, but pulls much less weight.

The SL is actually slightly heavier and has less power but the better gearbox will get it to 60 slightly faster. Could be interesting from a rolling start.
I think you'll have to find someone with an SL500 and find out

apologies

although i find it intriguing that a stock sedan can beat a stock roadster of equivalent displacement

I think that's the appeal of the 500E, you don't need to look fast to go fast.
Anyone remember the Lancia 8.32 or the Lotus Carlton?
