Wire wheels

ANyone seen benz's with wire wheels? is it practical? does anyone know the pros or cons? id be interested if it was reasonable. I pushed my bosses 18'' 150 spoke chrome knockoffs with tires beside my car and it looked beautiful. i hope some of u know stuff about wires, it would really help. thanks everyone

You can buy kits that bolt onto you hubs to convert to knock offs to fit wire wheels. I've seen a coupla mid 70's SL's with wire wheels and they look Okay.

I think a guy on here "BigTire" has them on his SL.

Have a look here http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/

Borrani's would be my favourite wire wheel but they're about £1000 each.

They are a major pain to keep clean and they are known to slow leak (depending on the brand) but I can't much else about them.

cleaning is no problem my boss has big wires on a fleetwood caddy. and my friend has them on a 72 benz, i think they look so nice in the sun sittin or spinnin. maybe spinner wire wheels, that would be sick i think, not into euro style so much. if anyone else has anything to add please help, thanks. peace

I could see the 150's in my minds' eye, but not the spinners....they're SOOO played out, very 2000, not timeless. Here in So.Cal, most of the spinners you see are on mini vans,Ford F-150's from Mexico and 88 Nissan Sentras or cars of that ilk, usually the hub cap variety (LOL). Not trying to "tear in to you", just my opinion.

As for info about wires...you gotta check them constantly...atleast once a week for loose, bent, broken or missing spokes. Also not the first (or seventh) choice for a performance wheel. Probably why you don't see alot of cars coming from the factory with wire wheels...even if they are Daytons.

You know a buddy of mine used to roll on Daytons about 15 years ago....back then they were reffered to as "Killa" Daytons....didn't take but a month for him to find out why....a gun to the head and five minutes later...a wheeless truck and soiled underpants LOL!!! And he was one of the lucky ones!

I think the craze is over though, good luck eitherway!

Yeah I fell ya'...I think they would look good, though. Can you get a pic with the wheels next to your ride so we can get an idea or maybe photoshop them?

Tony.
