AAMCO $99 Power Purge

Does anyone recommend going to AAMCO? I'm interested in changing the transmission fluid on my 97 e320 with 61,000 miles. AAMCO has been advertising their power purge for $99 which includes annual transmission fluid changes for the lifetime of the car. Thanks for any response...

Don't do it!

Dude, don't event think about it!!! The Mercedes 5 speed transmission that's put into the 97 E320 requires a special blended synthetic oil only manufactered by Mercedes Benz, what those guys use is Regular Dex. It's not good for your tranmission at all. Even the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF isn't good for your car, its formulated for cars that use regluar Dex fluid. What you could do is buy the Synthetic oil from the dealership and then let Aamco install it. I'm not sure how much oil you tranny takes, but the dealership will know. Goood Luck with the car!

Just go to a trusted Independent mechanic or actually go to the dealer. The MB fluid is the only stuff that can be used. Otherwise the results will be disasterous. Changing the fluid at this mileage is an excellent idea for mantaining the life of this wonderful transmission!

Don't let anyone other than a dealer touch the transmission

AAMCO Power Purge is Trans Flush

That's what the power purge is -- a trans flush for the life of the car, once a year.

Non-Synthetic ATF is usually about $200
Synthetic ATF is about $250 (I believe it's around $11/quart of the fluid)

W5a580 722.6 Tranny

So you're saying I should only use MB trans fluid in the 722.6 transmission? That's the trans I assume I have in my 97 E320?
