What's Your Mileage???

Yippeeeee!!!! A few days ago, I actually made 25mpg on my '01E430 (as reported by the onboard system), combined city and highway. City was regular city driving for, maybe, 45 minutes. Highway was 4Hr trip at constant speed, between 70 and 80, with a few spurts of 90. Can it do better? What kind of mileage are you experiencing.

I usually average 24-25 in similar driving similar with my '99 E430. I have gotten 28 several times on long highway runs and hit 29.2 once. My figures are actual calculations based on miles run/fuel added. It does drop to 21 or so when I do a hard run on a country road, but for the most part traffic keeps me from exploiting the potential of this car. Frustrating, really. An E55 must be REALLY frustrating!

28 is pretty good. I'm lucky in a way because we have several high stretches here where it's easy to run 90-110 for about 45minutes to 1hr with no fear of getting nabbed. Love it!!! I'll shoot for 28.

I usually get 21-22 around town and 24-26 on the road in my 2000 E430 Sport. Not bad for a big ol' V-8! Running K & N filter, Mobil 1 0w 40, and Texaco 93 Premium.

MikeE430,

I noticed you indicated Texaco at 93 octane, do you know if that's the standard level for their premium grade gas? I've noticed here in California it seems Mobil, Chevron and Union 76 all have 91, but I haven't checked out Texaco. Are some brands known to perform better than others?

Thanks!

Here in the east, Sunoco also runs 93 and 94 octane. No big difference in composition but the price difference is big (for me - I used to work for a gas pump company and I know quite well how these octanes are mixed). I run whatever the highest pump octane is wherever I am. 28mpg is pretty good on the E430. Maybe someday, I'll get there!!!

New E,

Here in the South, 93 octane is pretty much available everywhere. I have used them all and find that Texaco and Amoco seem to run better in my cars. The Porsche, being turbocharged and chipped seems to benefit more from these brands. I have also run Chevron 93, but it is harder to find here.

MikeyE430,

Off to Texaco I go. That is...once I find one! I find myself filling up quite frequently, so I'm sure there's plenty of opportunity. My daily commute is about 4 miles one way, so my average mileage ranges from 9.6 to 21.2. My neighbor's boyfriend is a MB salesperson, and he said mileage should improve as the car gets driven more. I'm at about 1,200 miles now, so hopefully it'll improve with age (unlike me).

Thanks!

I average about 21 mpg on my 2000 E320, but I typically start off at near full throttle and travel on a two lane highway at 65 - 70 MPH before hitting a wall of traffic for about 5 miles each day. I think the best I've done is 25 MPH on the interstate, but even then I was travelling at 70+ mph.

New E,
I don't think we can get anything better than 91 octane in CA. I've searched and found none. I think it's due to our smog rules and the special gas formulations they enforce. A long time ago, I remember being able to get 92 octane. Not anymore. But if you find otherwise, let me know where.

I am really impressed, 25 to 28 MPG ???
City, it's always 14 to 15 MPG and I didn't push very hard....
Freeway (99% freeway and 1% city), the best is around 22 close to 23 MPG. However, I was cruising 100 to 110 MPH.
23 MPG at 110 MPH versus 25+ MPG at 75 MPH, not a bad deal especially my car only has 7K miles.
