Lee,

First off, sweet ride. It's got to be tough to decide weather you're going to drive the CLK or the E-class each morning. :p

About the Carlsson bumper, did you have to get new fog lamps as the opening on the replacement bumper looks round and my OEMs are rectangular?

What did you mean that you can not get rid of the black rubber strip? Do the side skirts go below that? I always thought that they bolt on top of that portion.

The rubber strip is part of the door. If you remove it, there will be a gap between the rocker panel and the bottom of the door.

The CLK stays at the warehouse, I never drive it, so it's not really a choice for me in the morning.

The Carlsson front bumper uses OE fog lights (they fit behind the smaller hole, hence the different shape).

BTW the rims were sold last week. The kit will be coming off this week.

yes you can also buy the kit from Tire Rack. We are around the same price. If you do decide to order it from TR, make sure to ask for Luke.

Hi Lee,
I wonder did your Carlsson kit come in painted or pre-painted?
If they come in pre-painted, what kind of paints did you use for this painting process??
I am thinking about getting either a Brabus kit or the Carlsson kit recently, and I'd like to do some research before I bring in my kit down to a local shop for painting and installation.
Is there any detail that I should know when painting the kit so I will not ruin the kit?? Like what kind of paints are most preferable for painting these component and getting the best possible color matching result with the factory paint? Also, can you provide some detailed procedure in doing this kind of thing?? Thank you very much.

Thumbs up some info on W210 kits for 96-99

All the kits come unpainted. We used some factory Glasurit paint on the kit (PPG paint is also very good). No special technique really, except that if you get the Brabus kit, you'd want to make sure they add some flex agent for the urethane bumpers. No special prep work was needed, other than sanding, primering, and painting. Installation on both is very simple (easier on the Brabus, though, because it is just an add-on). If ordering the Brabus kit, it comes both "with" or "without" exhaust cutout, but the one "with" cutout only fits the Brabus exhaust (somewhat side exiting). If using another brand of aftermarket exhaust, you will need to buy the one "without" cutout and make your own. The Carlsson bumper comes only "without" cutout, so if using an exhaust other than Carlsson or OE, you will need to make the cutout once again.
