Transmission problem with my E320

has anyone out there had a transmission problem? They are replacing the whole transmission but my car is under warranty 320. Its a great car but this sucks

I have had a transmission related problem...I had a new transfer case installed (over $3k value) due to some leakage around the gasket area. It was discovered at mileage 11k, at first oil change, Service "A".

Tech said they normally might remove gasket, clean it up, put a new gasket, seal, etc., but MB instructions are replace the whole thing (its too complicated inside basically).

I picked up my E320 4Matic in Germany, and after allowing 1k mile break-in period where everybody passed my slow new car on the autobahn, I began to increase speed to an eventual average 110-115. Hard to know if this put stress on transfer case, but then again, this is what the car was designed for.

It runs just fine so far...

So you have 722.6 trans. The 6 series transmission is an electronic transmission. Usually the valve bodys go bad on these, and sometimes the EGS control unit goes bad too...but in your case, they sometimes replace the whole trans. Oh yeah, the complete gearshifting mechanisms are replaced sometimes also. Hopefully you have a warranty, because just the transmission is about $2,500.

thanks for the info, because it is under warranty and they did take care of it. The replace everything that dealt with the transmission. They could not explain why it happen. When it broke, the car would not go in 1st. It felt like someone was under the car banging on it, but when I put it in seccond it drove like it used to.

So since they replace the transmission, its extremely tight. First gear is smooth but short and it drives like it did when I bought it.

Do I need to pamper it? Other MB drivers I know said I should break it in hard because it adjusts to my driving.
