Rev Limiter

Hi anyone...had any problems with what seems like a limiter if the engine is worked hard or you try and change down manual on the auto box at high speed...our car seems to only want to go at a 3000/4000 rpm....we have to pull over and stop the car take the key out and it seems to rest its self...what’s it all about...we can understand the rev limiter when you are in neutral...but we haven’t pushed her to hard....any ideas...we hope you understand what we are going on about...the thing is we had to pull over today cause she wouldn’t go past 40 mph until we rest her embarrassing !!!!

If no MIL is present, there still should be a code in the ECU, sounds like MAF sensor is going south.

MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor. Could be the problem even if you don't have a MIL (check engine light). By reading the car's ECU (computer) with a scanner, it should give a code or codes that would detail your problem. A lot of shops will read the codes for you for free. That is where I would start before just blindly bringing it to a dealer.
