Ticking and knocking are 2 completely different sounds. If you have knocking happening, could be pistons, could be a few major things. If you have ticking happening, it could be the lifters. Usually if it's not bad, running fully synthetic oil in there for a couple hundred miles should free them up and stop them from ticking. Otherwise, I would take it to an MB mech and have them check the lifters. Hope this helps...

Knocking why did you buy a knocking or ticking 420?

jimmy, thanks. it is more of a loud ticking. when im accelrating it will decrease, and when i let off the gas it goes away. cold start however, it sucks.

oh lord, yeah i got a great deal on it. i figure if anything, if it gets too expensive i can try to quiet it with some lucas and flip it for a small profit and look for another one. actually the day i bought this one another one came up but that had a trans problem.

ive been doin so much dam research on this car. im also trying to pik up a mint 92 500sel for my pops. he's a typical indian man who loves nothing more than good curry and rice, and an S-Class.
