Heads up for those who have the I-6

Today I had a Check light, and got code pulled which I had a engine cylinder misfired. When I pulled the plastic cover to pull the plug, I noticed on the passenger side of the engine where you have two thin hose running into the EGR Valve, one of them were broken. The hose tube looked yellow which I assumed thats the color. Guess what, they were brittle and had to be replace. So I went down to the dealership and it was very inexpensive, only costed me 2.35 for almost 40 inches long, the it was blue almost plastic like hose and very flexible so I had to cut them into two since there's two of them, I replaced both of them, the broken one and the other one. Viola, the engine check light went away. So I thought just to share with you guys when you need to do a spark plug change, while you're at it, check the vaccum line to see if they are yellow, since they are not suppose to be that indicate it's brittle from age. Cuz it is easily overlooked.

I don't remember what the code was, something like P1098 something like that. As far as pic, I didn't have my digital cam, but I'll take a pic of the new hose, it looks like a fiber optic.

BenzVince... Thanks. Good information to know. I will inspect mine the next time I change my spark plugs. Typically those vacuum hose are made of rubber compound and they should last about 60K-100k depending on how hot your engine is. You could also get it at PepBoys as well. This is a commodity item, nothing special (I know because I work in this field)
Regards

BenzVince is right. I had one of my broken too. I was getting a code that reflect that mass air was flowing in. It made me fail the maryland state emmision inspection and check engine light will come on within 24hrs of a reset. But once those cables were replaced...all is fine now.

Here's the pic of the new hose, sorry for the poor lighting cuz it's raining outside, so I took it on my webcam that I had an extra hose.
