Bilstein Sport Setup

just a quick clarification: if i switch from the stock suspension to the bilstein sport shocks, I DO need to replace my springs, but DO NOT need any other equipment (camber, sway bars, drink holders, etc.)

correct?

and those who have made the switch - do you like it?

If you use Bilstein Sports then you WILL need to use lowering springs (e.g. Eibach, H&R, etc).

The Bilstein HD's are a direct replacement for stock shocks and can be used with stock springs.

You may need new drink holders.

Camber would depend on the new springs, not the shocks.

why springs?

I have new bilstein sport struts on my '97 E420 Sport and didn't replace anything else - all seems fine to me.

They were fine with my 17's and now with my 18's, too

DCFSF - you didn't need new springs? as i've read these forums, the sport shocks are shorter and thus require a shorter spring. how is the ride with the stock springs? seems like it would be a little on the stiff side if the spring is too long. I'm up in Santa Rosa, where did you have your shocks installed and how much, if you don't mind my askin'.

I just put the bilstein sports on before ever driving the car - so I really can't compare - they ride nice - maybe a little stiff for a big lux ledan - but to me the stiffer the better (within reason)

Give Paul at Autohaus Exec in Burlingame a call 650-340-8038 - he does a great job at a fair price - he has dealer techs that moonlight at his shop on the weekends and evenings - so the work is top notch. tell him David sent you.

I'd be curious to here from an expert on on my usage of the bilstein sports with everything else stock.

sounds pretty good, i don't get down that way, but i'd make the trip to save a couple hundred bucks. my mechanic wants right around 1K for the bilstein HD - and i'm guessing he'd want about the same for the sport shocks.

do you have any pictures of your car DCFSF? i'd like to see how the car sits since it would be the exact set up as mine.

1k for Bilstein's? Thats way too high just for shocks and installation. I got a set of Biletein SP with Eibach springs and installation for around $900.

Sbarsap is right, even though I like him.

Look on the ebay. the occasional Bilstein Sport set can be had for less then $400 retail. Also, a set of sport springs can be had for around $240.

Look around.
