2001 E320 Engine Oil Consumption
Hi Guys:
At 60,000Km, i'm having a lot of engine oil consumption. I'm consuming about 1.5L every 1500km. What could be the problem? The engine still pulls very strong. I use Mobil 1.
Thanks

Hi, are you using 0w40? That's the MBZ spec. If you're using a lighter weight then that may contribute.
My lazy conversion from metric is suspect, but it seems that you're using a quart about every 650 miles??!! That's pretty extreme. Do you park somewhere that you can be sure you're not leaking any? Might be worth raising the car (support it with jackstands) and removing the panels underneath to check for leaks, they'll catch a lot and then "redistribute it" while you drive.
If it's actually burning the oil, your plugs should reflect it, so it's probably worth pulling a couple of them (different cylinders, obviously) to check.
Once you figure it out, post back up and let us know the result...
Good luck and enjoy the ride,
Greg

this may be ur solution
I have actuallyy read when there is a high level oil consumption that a seal ring between the intake pipe and the throttle actuator may need a replacement.

Thanks,

If your engine is burning oil you will see it out of your tail pipe , blue smoke.
as far as signs of oil burning on the spark plug , you will have brown deposit build -up on the tip of the plugs or the tips will be wet if you have a missfire.

Actually, oil consumption has to be quite a bit greater than that for it to be very visible from the tailpipe.
Typically the plugs will be very dark in color with heavier deposits and the electrodes often have discolorations on them. Normal combustion deposits are light tan in color with minimal deposits.
